Kombi Campervan Tent … Yes, that’s right a VW Kombi Campervan tent!

Kombi Camper Van Tent - Replica 1965 VW Combi Van

Replica 1965 VW Combi Van Tent

When we first saw the VW T1 Kombi Campervan tent advertised, we just had to have it. Full stop. No question about it.

It was hard to find any reviews though, just loads of comments that people had left on various sites about ‘needing’ one and how much fun it might be to take to the Glastonbury Festival. Not to matter about the lack of actual reviews.. we still ‘needed’ it in our lives. Made by the Monster Factory, the VW Kombi campervan tent is an exact replica (er, size wise) of a 1965 kombi van.

“VW campervan tents are incredibly quick and easy to set up. All tents come with free standing poles which are bungee corded with quality click connectors. Quite frankly, popping it up is idiot-proof! The generous height of the tents also makes it possible to stand up inside, invaluable when dressing in your festival finest or sheltering from a rainy day!”

These brilliant abodes are to scale and come in blue, red and yellow and there is currently

Our Review of the VW Campervan Tent:

The VW Kombi camper van tent brings a whole new dimension to camping! Even at around $300, we still had to have it!  We had a trial run of putting the beastie up on our lawn, the blurb does say  “VW camper van tents are incredibly quick and easy to set up…”. Hmmm… well, it takes a little pondering to get the hang of setting the poles up, and I think if a person had no ‘training’ in the art of erecting tents, it may get slightly frustrating… but still worth the effort and giggles (did I say yet how fun they are?).

So, there stood our newest family member, proudly gracing our front lawn and fooling many folk passing by into thinking that we had a real Kombi camper. Tsk., this model is sooo much more economical and not fraught with mechanical problems at all. It is spacious inside, remembering that it is to scale, plenty of head room. Sleeps 4 quite well. OK, no space really for bags in there when all 4 of us are out and about camping… but …we still had to have it!

Parked up on our front lawn!

The frame goes together first… followed by covering it with the outer shell. Then the inside ‘room’ is hung up and pegged, complete with a natty divider wall to give the elusion of privacy. The zip is done up from ground level, slightly irksome perhaps, but no biggie in the scheme of things. If I were looking at a run of the mill tent, this would be a consideration against it… but not with the Kombi Camper! I forgive it the little details, in the name of fun. Warning ~ Do practice setting up your new pride and joy prior to setting off into the wilderness camping, as it can be quite humiliating to be standing around with poles all over the show looking clueless for a while!

Amazingly, the tent is really stable in the wind. We were camping in the Flinders Ranges last September, and had one night of really high, gusty winds – the little blue camper was a real trooper and stood its ground superbly.

Inside, the tent is bright and airy, despite having no ‘real’ windows. The door has a flyscreen, of course, so can be closed up or left open.

This year we travelled from the Dandenong Ranges (near Melbourne) to Uluru and back, camping most nights. Our gazebo tent flew away at Yulara campground (near Ayers Rock/Uluru) and disintegrated in a strong gust of wind, but the tent stood firm.

We even pitched the kombi van tent in the world’s only underground campsite in Coober Pedy, Outback Australia!

Our Kombi Campervan tent has been to the Outback of Australia, along the Great Ocean Road, into the mountains and accommodated our daughters and their mates on the front lawn.. with many years of fun and amusement to come.

OVERALL RATING FROM WICKED WALKABOUT REVIEWS: 10/10 of course. It is in a league of its very own!

Whoa!!!… there is even a London Underground tent now!!
